Joanne Grace-Morgan

Joanne  has been in the teaching industry for 20 years and is proud to be the founder of the Illawarra’s first full time classical / contemporary training centre for elite dancers.

Having passed her R.A.D Advanced 2 exam Joanne was awarded A.R.A.D. status earning these letters after her name as an Associate of the Royal Academy Of Dance.  From here Joanne undertook her teacher training through the Royal Academy Of Dance.  During this time Joanne was selected into the Bachelor Applied Arts / Dance: Bachelor Education degree at UNSW and within 4 years had completed both her degree and her teacher’s certificate with Distinction.  This led to the further completion of her Teaching Diploma through the R.A.D. after a further 2 years of study.

Fortunately Joanne stepped into a teaching position at the prestigious Newtown Performing Arts High School after graduating where she stayed for 4 years and leaving regrettably due to the demands of running an emerging dance school and Sydney travel!  This led her to her 2 year appointment at Wollongong High School Of The Performing Arts where again the growing demands of JGSoD meant she had to leave her much loved position to embark on the emerging elite programs that exist today.

Throughout this time Joanne completed her Masters Of Dance Teaching from Queensland University Of Technology.  This led to the eventual placement teaching classical ballet and contemporary dance at UNSW.   Joanne was part of the staff training our teachers of today in their dance styles but was fortunate to have been offered an esteemed position in the teacher training division of the course teaching Dance Method to the 3rd and 4th year teachers.  Her job in this role involved mentoring students as they began their teaching journey and providing them with training on how to structure classes, prepare assessments and differentiate their classrooms among other things.  Joanne enjoyed her time teaching the theoretical components of dance and teaching the “how to teach” is something that she greatly misses!  Joanne became  UNSW program supervisor of students on prac across the state and enjoyed once again broadening her skill set and accepting new challenges.  Her 12 years working at UNSW is remembered fondly and a position she looks back on with pride.  Her journey to this point has all played a part in the development of her existing teaching practices and development of the tiered programs that now JGSoD offers the dancers of the Illawarra.  Joanne is also a member of the Australian Dance Adjudicators Association and is accredited to adjudicate eisteddfods in all styles of dance as well as holds her Certificate in Training and Assessment and is certified to deliver vocational training and programs.

Joanne aims to provide opportunities for dancers closer to home whilst still maintaining an education and will continue to make this a strong focus moving forward
