Clare has been dancing since the age of 3 and has studied numerous styles of dance including ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap and physical culture. As Clare’s love of dance continued to grow and her passion in choreography began to take more of her focus, she not only performed in, but choreographed her high school dance items for the South Coast Regional Dance Festival and State Dance Festival. After competing in eisteddfods in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, and performing at Disneyland LA, Clare continued to explore choreography and teaching as a contemporary teacher at Diane Blaas School of Dance.
Clare decided early on that she wanted to study Dance as her vocation and was selected to study a Bachelor Of Arts in Dance/Education double degree alongside English teaching at UNSW. Here, she was exposed to the teaching of many influential mentors, including Joanne Grace. During her study, Clare sought opportunities to expand her mind in choreography in the education system as she composed pieces for the Schools Spectacular, Southern Stars, local school musicals and tutored students in HSC Dance. Clare was ecstatic to be chosen to perform as a tap/jazz dancer in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Opening Ceremony where she performed alongside her tap idol Adam Garcia and the Tap Dogs.
After four years of tertiary training, Clare was a targeted graduate who accepted a position at Gymea Technology High School where she has taught Dance to skilled and passionate students since 2004. Clare began HSC Dance marking 12 years ago for the Board of Studies and now NESA. These experiences continue to develop her knowledge and skills in the marking, assessment and reporting of students in the education system. Clare’s students have gained excellent results in their Dance HSC including many band 6s, Callback nominations, Board of Studies All Rounder successes and some have gone on to pursue their own career in Dance.
Clare is pleased to expand the minds of those students who have chosen to study full time at JGSoD whereby she provides them with a holistic view of dance education, the industry and creates frameworks for them to achieve their goals and to direct them towards their future.
